Energy System Modelling Challenges for Synthetic Fuels : Towards net zero systems with synthetic jet fuels

چکیده

Long-distance air travel requires fuel with a high specific energy and density. There are no viable alternatives to carbon-based fuels. Synthetic jet from the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process, employing sustainable feedstocks, is potential low-carbon alternative. A number of synthetic production routes have been developed, using range feedstocks including biomass, waste, hydrogen captured carbon dioxide. We review three system models find that many these not represented. examine market share fuels in each model scenario which Paris Agreement target achieved. In 2050, it cheaper use conventional coupled negative emissions technology than produce TIAM-UCL UK TIMES models. However, JRC-EU-TIMES model, represents most routes, finds substantial role for fuels, partly because underground CO 2 storage assumed limited. These scenarios demonstrate strong link between capture (CCS) emissions. Future improvements include better representing blending limits meet international standards, reducing costs ensuring sustainable.

Hydrogen for Synthetic Fuels via Nuclear Energy

Fluctuations in availability and recent increases in price of petroleum have had profound effects on the national economy. As synthetic fuels, in particular, hydrogen, become increasingly attractive, nuclear energy has a role in developing such fuels. It is postulated that the nuclear radiation of the fission process itself can be utilized directly in fluid fueled devices or radiation and heat ...

Why Synthetic Fuels Are Necessary in Future Energy Systems

We propose a hypothesis that fuels will continue to be critical elements of future energy systems. The reasons behind this are explored, such as the immense benefits conferred by fuels from their low cost of storage, transport, and handling, and especially in the management of the seasonal swing in heating demand for a country with a summer and winter season such as the UK. Empirical time-serie...

Optimization of Synthetic Oxygenated Fuels

Background Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from transportation sources will require implementation of a variety of strategies, including improvements in the efficiency of overall vehicle/fuel systems, such as hybrid and new high-efficiency diesel engines, and use of synthetic fuels to replace or supplement petroleum-based fuels. A particularly attractive class of synthetic fuels is oxyge...

The Role of Synthetic Fuels for a Carbon Neutral Economy

Fossil fuels depletion and increasing environmental impacts arising from their use call for seeking growing supplies from renewable and nuclear primary energy sources. However, it is necessary to simultaneously attend to both the electrical power needs and the specificities of the transport and industrial sector requirements. A major question posed by the shift away from traditional fossil fuel...
